We all started somewhere significantly less fit then we are today.  It has been a journey.  We have put the time and the energy in, and we continue to look to progress and improve.  There is ALWAYS room for improvement.  All of our coaching staff started with us as regular athletes.  Through years of enjoyment and fulfillment we have decided it is important for us to spread the good word and help others become their best selves.  CrossFit to us is a means of improving functional movements that will help us be better at everyday life.

Located in the heart of Spring Branch, Houston, Texas we offer easy access off of I-10 to let you sneak your workout in before or after work.

This is our crew...

Meet Our Team

Jess McClain

Co-Owner/Head Coach
CrossFit L2, Olympic Lifting Level 1 Certification, CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Gymnastics

I started CrossFitting on April 7th, 2013 and to say it changed my life would be my life's greatest understatement to this point.  For most of my existence I have been a competitive athlete with intermittent bouts of slothfulness. Gaining and losing weight like it was my life's calling.  When I found CrossFit, it reignited my competitive nature, which had been lying dormant for quite a while.  It took an additional two years of busting my butt, for me to figure out that my diet was the biggest factor that determined my weight/body composition.  I think the biggest game changer for me was the documentary "Fed Up"... but that's a whole other story.  In the summer of 2014 I left my teaching and coaching position at a local private school to pursue the awesomeness I know as CrossFit. Nikki Goldin hired me on to general manage her two boxes, CrossFit 1525 and 1526. It was the next step for pursuing a pipe dream of owning a box one day.  I first had to figure out if I could run one (or two).  Fast forward a year and a half of developing tremendous friendships and working relationships to the end of 2015.  Nikki was wanting to sell 1526 so she could focus on the one original, bigger 1525 and we were looking for buyers.  One day Val said to me, "And why are we not buying 1526?" and I didn't have a response for her.
So we took a leap of faith and a tremendous outpouring of support and encouragement from those we call family and here we have it. We're business owners.
At this point in the game if you come into the box, the likelihood that we will meet is incredibly high.  I coach a lot of classes because... that's what you do when you start a business.  I am most definitely a work in progress as far as running a business goes, but I absolutely love (most) people and am incredibly passionate about helping people figure out how to live their version of a healthy lifestyle. CrossFit is, in my opinion, the most effective and efficient way to become More Capable.  The lessons that can be learned in the box mimic what I remember coaching on the fields, which I constantly correlated to life.
Come on over and visit us, consider joining our community, I feel confident in saying it is well on it's way to becoming one of the best, most inclusive, and strongest in Houston.
If you have any questions about CrossFit 29-95 please don't hesitate to email me.

USAW Level 1 Sports Performance

I have been a coach/teacher since the day I graduated from college and I thrive on pushing both kids and adults to take risks, test their limits, and to achieve their goals. By day, I am second grade teacher at Annunciation Orthodox School and by night, co-owner and coach at CrossFit 29-95. I absolutely love our community and look forward to the one-on-one connections and relationships I develop with our clients each time I set foot in the box.

Prior to teaching at AOS, I spent six years coaching Division I field hockey, first at Lehigh University while I was in grad school (2 years) and then at the University of Delaware (4 years). Sports and fitness have always been a part of my life. As a young child, I spent as much time as I could outdoors: Running, climbing, biking, swimming, and playing various team sports. By high school, although I continued playing basketball, I had become a hockey head and spent most of my training developing hockey-specific skills in hopes that I would play in college. My focus, determination and hard work paid off and I spent four years playing field hockey at Rutgers University. For several years after college, I continued to play hockey while also trying other forms of exercise to help me stay in shape. When we moved to Texas, the opportunities for playing hockey lessened and I went in and out of workout phases. In April 2012, when we were both completely out of shape, Jess discovered CrossFit and decided to give it a try. Fearing that I would embarrass myself and not be successful at CrossFit, I decided to do P90x on my own. After about 6 months of P90x and seeing Jess’ transformation (physically, mentally and emotionally), I was finally willing to give CrossFit try. On November 10, 2012 my journey began and now I can’t imagine my life without it.

Meg Banahan

CrossFit L1 - Coach
Sports and competition has been a huge part of her life as long as she can remember and CrossFit has allowed her to continue her passion as an adult. Meg grew up in a small town and played every sport offered and then continued her athletic career as a member of the Texas A&M Women’s Basketball program. She is now a practicing attorney but spend most of her free time at her second home, CrossFit 29-95.
She was introduced to CrossFit shortly after beginning her law career in 2012, she grabbed her close friend and fellow 29-95 coach, Buffie Matthews, and took the CrossFit elements class at a local box. They haven’t looked back since.

"I find that CrossFit gives me the physical and emotional outlet that I need to handle the day to day stress of my career and life. The 29-95 community has become family to me and I have made lifelong friends along the way. In 2017, I was given the opportunity to join the coaching staff and truly enjoy sharing my love of CrossFit with new members. I believe anyone can become a CrossFit athlete as long as they have the willingness to work hard. So leave your excuses at home and come give our community a go! You won’t regret it."

Favorite Movements: Power Snatch, Double Unders, and Wall Balls.
Favorite Benchmark WOD: Karen

Meg is an owner and practicing attorney at Banahan & Martinez PLLC if you need some lawyership.

"Back in 2012 Meggie (Coach Meg) made me try CrossFit because I was fat. (lol)  And after the pain and suffering of the first couple of weeks, I was hooked.  In January of 2016 I decided to get my L1 to coach the group of kick ass adults in my new box (29-95).  I love my CrossFit family."

Cathy has her Emergency Nurse Practitioner degree from University of Texas Health Science Center and her MBA from U of H.  She has recently changed positions so that she can work with Breast Cancer patients on a daily basis at My Houston Surgeons.  She  has always been into exercise since a very young age, played soccer as a teenager and sand volleyball in early adult life.  In March of 2009, she had to undergo back surgery (L3/L4 fusion) and after recovering, she was looking for something that would get her back into shape, keep her engaged,  and push her in new ways -- but it had to be safe for her back!!  Doctors told her - "swim and do yoga" --- not her cup of tea, so in March of 2010, she walked into a CF gym (CrossFit 1525) and she's been completely addicted since then!    "To say that it has changed my life is an understatement!  Not only have I become stronger, but it got me in the best shape of my life!  It has given me confidence that has carried over into my personal and work life; I've learned how to eat correctly;  tackle functional movements in daily life;  set & achieve goals; try things I might not have ever done before; and above all - I have formed so many amazing friendships!!  In late Sept. 2016, I was diagnosed with Bilateral Breast Cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy, radiation, double mastectomy and a LOT of surgeries.  It has been a journey that has come to an end in Aug 2018 and I am not only cancer free, but super excited to be back at the box surrounded by my CrossFit family!!  I am working my way back physically --- I can't do everything that I could before, but I will get there one day and it's all about taking the baby steps to get there.  I love the support that I get from our CrossFit community - it gets me up every morning at 5am to get my workout in!!  I have always enjoyed coaching CrossFit as I love watching others reach their personal goals and it's so cool to watch the transformation that occurs with so many people!!"
My Favorite Movements:  OHS, pull-ups, back squat (all the things that I am currently working on getting back to where I once was)

Favorite Benchmark Workout:  Nancy, Grace and Annie

Least Favorite thing - RUNNING!!

Eric Flores

CF Level 2 Coach

I grew up in the heart of Spring Branch and pride myself to be a SBISD alumni. I graduated from Northbrook High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2006. From 2006-2011, I served in (1st marine division, Tuck co, 2nd platoon) and did 2 tours to Afghanistan. As a corporal I lead my squad and mentored new marines.
After my last deployment I sustain hip injury that left me wheelchair bound for almost a year. But with the help of doctors, physical therapist, and the Wounded Warrior Program (WWP) I was able to regain my mobility.
In 2011, I was employed as a personal trainer for Bally’s TotalFitness and this became my introduction into physical fitness. I obtained my certifications Aerobics and fitness Association of America personal trainer ( AFAA P.t). At the same time, I was enrolled at the University of Houston-Downtown pursuing my bachelor’s degree.
In 2013, the Houston area WWP offered me a trial membership at Imperium Crossfit. This was the catalyst in my life.
Eventually I pursued a career with the Houston Fire Department (HFD) in 2013. I currently work in the Southwest region as a firefighter. I found that both HFD and the USMC share similar characteristics such as camaraderie, modeled after a military hierarchical structure, and they focus on character and servitude.

Joseph Paguio

"I didn’t get serious about my fitness until I was 22 and mainly went to globo gyms.  My older brother bugged me to try CrossFit so after a while I started in 2014. Three years later, I got my L1."
Joseph has been with us since we moved to our current Long Point location.  He brings a lot of knowledge and experience to our community.  He really enjoys powerlifting and can provide some great cues for all of the gymnastic movements. David West

USAW Level 1 Sports Performance

As a long term integral member of our community David leaned into his passion for Olympic Lifting taking the USAW Sports Performance course in April of 2019.  He provides members a wealth of knowledge in both our experienced and beginner lifting classes.  He is a perfect example of putting the work in to improve.  David is incredibly disciplined with his attention to improving his mobility as well as the quality of his movements.

On top of being a strong lifter and coach, David is an avid CrossFitter who loves throwing down when given the chance.  We are incredibly grateful to have one of the most patient and kind people we know now part of our strong staff.
